Does “Nose Up” Really Work?

Do you wish your nose had more length to it? Do you find that your nose would look better with more angles? Many men and women find themselves asking these questions, and are unfortunately stuck in that dilemma for most of their lives. Of course, there is surgery.

However, some may not have the courage to undergo a risky procedure, while others may not have the financial means. This is why they go looking for cheaper solutions and, interestingly enough, there are a few devices in the market which offer that.

One of the products available today is one that is called “Nose Up.” It is a plastic nose clip that helps shape and lifts the nose without having to go through surgery. It is actually quite amazing how this product earned good reviews from a lot of bloggers who are struggling to give their nose a few more inches or definition.

Nose Up is a product of Japanese ingenuity. There are other similar products just like this one, but give it to the Japanese to pretty much create anything for every little concern, no matter how silly it may look.

Nose Up is a device, which is an improved version of the common clothesline clip, which others would amusingly put on their nose with the intent of making it longer, slimmer or upturned. This nose clip is made to create a tight grip on the nasal structure so that it molds it into one that is more defined.

Does this really work?

Although it is easy to get skeptical about it, but an explanation to how it could create results is that the nose is made up of cartilage. It is a moldable tissue that is basically composed of 90% water. If bones can be corrected with traction  or if spines can be fixed using braces then how much more with cartilage.

This is the premise of the product, which actually makes sense. Another example is how women in China make their feet smaller using a binding technique. Although a lost tradition, this is an example of how bones, and yes also cartilage, could be molded into a certain shape with repeated pressure.

Comfort

But of course, if you want to achieve significant change with Nose Up you have to be diligent and also sacrifice enough to put it on for several minutes a day. It is actually designed in a way that it fits snuggly onto your nose. Compared to other similar products, such as Nose Magic or the nose massager, I find this one more convenient to wear. However due to the snug fit, you won't be able to breathe through your nose.

Price

What makes this product really a hit among those who are fond of finding cheap alternatives is that they are so affordable. The price for a Nose Up is around $1-$2. This is straight up cheaper than surgery, although you do have to be very patient for results.

Results

Now when it comes to the results, many are actually commending this product that it somehow created a change in the structure of their nose. However, you do have to understand that these results verge along the lines of being very subtle. So if your goal is to make significant improvements, then this is not the product for you. Some say that it improved their wide bridges; others find their nose slimmed down a bit.

However, it is still a fact that it may make the nose slimmer or give the illusion that it is longer, but it does not smooth out any bumps. Although effective to some extent, but the results are definitely limited.

Reviews

It is actually quite surprising how a lot of people are commending this product. On Amazon, it got an average rating of 3 stars. Many people like how something so inexpensive are giving them results, albeit being very subtle. But at least with repeated use and a whole lot of discomfort, they are able to find some results out of their sacrifice.

This product is definitely a quirky and yet effective in its wake. However, the results may not be permanent. Although it may not really hold a candle to nose surgery, at least it is a convenient fix for those who may not have the budget or courage for an invasive procedure.

What a Non-Invasive Nose Job Won’t Give You

You want to reshape your nose but you are afraid to go under the knife. So you opt for the alternative procedure - the non surgical rhinoplasty.

But are you really getting what you really want with this approach? Although non-invasive treatments are not bad, but you also have to consider the quality of results that you have. It won’t give the same results as surgical treatments

In this article, I will be sharing the things that the non-invasive procedure won't give you.

Not as good as the surgery

There is no question that a non-surgical rhinoplasty can give you impressive results, but there are certain changes that fillers can't create.

Yes, it can improve nasal augmentation and subtle improvements but it cannot get any more extensive. For instance, it won’t be able to reduce the size of the nose, change the shape of the nostrils, narrow the nose, or improve the breathing problems.

The result is not permanent.

Dermal fillers are the substances that are used for this procedure and the result will lasts only for a few months to a year.

Costly in the long run

With series of sessions needed,  the total cost for non-invasive nose reshaping will eventually reach the cost of traditional rhinoplasty. Surgical rhinoplasty is permanent therefore you don't have to go back to your doctor and pay for any ongoing costs, unless the patient decides for revision surgery.

You might not be able to get rhinoplasty surgery

A non-invasive rhinoplasty may not require incisions but it doesn't mean that it can result to some scars. In some instances the body reacts to the injectable fillers by forming a scar tissue around it. This will make any future surgical rhinoplasty procedures more difficult to perform. You will know about this further after the surgeon has properly evaluated your case.

May not work for certain cosmetic nasal concerns

Non-surgical rhinoplasty may correct small humps, saddle nose deformities, retracted collumellas and a slight asymmetry, but it cannot improve large sized noses, those that need tip reduction, and those that have large humps.  It will only make the nose structures bigger but it cannot decrease the size or proportion.

Not completely free from side-effects

Even though it is non-invasive it does not mean you are protected from any side effects. The fillers used also have their own complications however it not as serious as the ones you can expect from surgical rhinoplasty.

For this reason it is important that you choose a doctor who is experienced in handling facial fillers. You have to know that the use of injectable fillers for this purpose is actually off label, which is why you need to entrust this to someone who really knows how to handle these fillers. It can create permanent scarring, lymphatic changes, as well as changes in skin color. Aggressive infections are also something to look out for.

More Caution Required for Fillers as a Rhinoplasty Alternative

There is an increasing demand for less invasive procedures today, particularly nose job procedure. And this trend gave rise to filler injections as an alternative to surgical rhinoplasty.

However, Dr. Steven Dayans, M.D., F.A.C.S., said that this procedure is not without any potential serious complications.

In a recent Vegas Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Dermatology meeting in Las Vegas, Dr. Dayan said that two of the major complications involved in filler injections for the nose are blindness and necrosis. That is why for those who are looking for nonsurgical options thinking that it is safer and quick, Dr. Dayan urges them to take more caution.

He said that impending necrosis occur more frequently in these cases and they are underreported. He underlines the importance that this be recognized so that prompt treatment is given within 24 hours. This serves as a reminder also to patients to only get their procedure done by a certified and trained doctor to make sure that fillers are administered safely in the right areas.

Dr. Dayan also said that the concern here is not just about injecting in the right place but it also has something to do with the fillers used, and injections made below the submuscular aponeurotic system. This goes to show that just because something sounds to be so simple and less invasive, means that anyone can perform them.

There are many blood vessels on the side and creases of the nose. With this Dr. Dayan referred to a presentation in Korea where the presenter recommended staying within the midline of the nose when injecting. This is to avoid the large vessels outside of that area.

In his practice, Dr. Dayan explains, “I used to stay completely out of the tip because I was concerned the tip was a really high risk for complications, especially for compression necrosis.” Today he injects through the tip but with the use of a cannula.

Through a small needle port with the use of a 22-guage needle, then with a 25-guage blunt tip cannula, he injects the filler through the tip. Through this he is able to recreate or improve the bridge of the nose, while making sure that he stays in the bone and away from the vessels.
He also thins out the fillers with lidocaine in order to decrease their viscosity. This enables the filler to less likely result to embolization.

Dr. Dayan believes that using fillers is best for those patients whom he refers to as “near miss rhinos”. It means that they only require small corrections such as filling out nasal humps. It is also an excellent method to correct secondary defects from a previous surgery.
