What are Delivery Room Makeovers?

"I did have a fresh eyebrow wax," Beyonce told People magazine. "I got my nails done, I got my feet done, had my hair done, and I had a little lip gloss."

Who would have thought that delivering a baby can be a downright glamorous experience?

It seems that the media are making birthing a glamorous experience with all the baby watch going on, from Hollywood to the Royal couple. A lot of these expectant moms look at the TV and magazines, and guess what they see, first photos of hot celebrities cradling their babies looking like the stork has just dropped it in their arms.

This drive may also be attributed to society’s expectation on women to look glowing while beaming down at their newborn, even though this is not necessarily the case in real life and quite understandably so.

For those who have done their share of labor pains, pursed lip breathing and pushing, bringing a baby into the world is far from making your alluring. Who could concentrate on an eyelash that is out of place when you are in searing pain? But this seems to be a thing of the past for some soon to be moms, as they usher in the era of delivery room makeovers.

So the trend is that moms are spending money on salon treatments so that they look their best before they go to labor. This is so that they can look their best after delivery, and of course, picture-ready. This is the time where we can all blame social networking!

But for some women what motivates them to get all pampered up even at this very glamorous milestone is to simply feel good about themselves. With their bodies bent out of shape and all types of pain coming in, they want to know that somehow they won’t look worn out, especially when you have a room of well-wishers afterwards.

However this trend also raised eyebrows with some saying that it is ridiculous. They say that when you finally have your newborn in your arms, you will be the last thing on your mind. But it isn't necessarily wrong because if a woman really wants to look her best when she delivers her baby, then by all means she can do so, just as long as it does not harm her or her baby.

The usual services that are being requested include waxing, spray tans, manicures, pedicures, hair and even makeup!

Tanning experts share that some women book their tans right before delivery, while some have it done right after the baby comes out to prevent it from coming off with all the sweating. A lot of pregnant women get spray tans throughout their pregnancies, but with special precautions. Experts say that to prevent any complications or just to be on the safe side, they use an organic solution.

A lot of women want to look like the immaculate image of mother and child when they take that very first photo. Some blame this need for the extra pampering on their nesting mode; while some simply want their first shots that to hit social media to be flattering.

For some new mothers delivery room makeovers not only made them look good for the photos, but it also served as a mini-spa day for them. Since they will be thrown into a frenzy of sleepless nights and a whacked out pattern, all these pampering can be a special and a much needed treat for them.
