The Promising Effects of Vitamin D for Hair Loss

Vitamin- D rich food.
Over the year’s baldness have earned positive reactions thanks to the stars and celebrities who fashion them. From Vin Diesel, Michael Jordan, to Bruce Willis, they redefined this type of loss, and instead of having it define them, they are the ones who created the image. Unfortunately not everyone has the personality to pull off this look, so for those who are still hoping for a solution, you might find it promising that vitamin D is now being considered a possible treatment.

There are a list of vitamins that can help you gain better hair quality and volume. But did you know that vitamin D can actually play a very vital role in hair restoration? This is according to a new study that can actually be supported by a number of literature in the past.

Vitamin D is important to hair health, although it is more popularly known for bone health. But today studies are focusing on vitamin D and its receptors on the skin.

It is important to first understand that during the life cycle of the hair, there comes a time when some of the hair follicles reach a resting phase. This is the reason why you can see some hairs on your comb or maybe on the drain. This is something that you should bawl over, because this is a normal phenomenon which usually lasts for just weeks. But when the hair follicles to resting phase for a long period of time and even forever, is when balding commence.

According to research vitamin D is the missing piece of the puzzle or the lock to the key that triggers the follicle receptor on the skin. Vitamin D stimulates the receptors to not only grow hair but also to generate stem cells and help them in differentiating as hair instead of skin. This was after a research done by Japanese scientists on hairless mice.

This means that instead of just restoring hair, it can help hair to grow on areas that have long been bald. That is why experts are looking into proper vitamin D supplementation to help relieve this problem.

Some may find that this is much better since it could protect them from the side effects that common hair loss medications have. For instance the sexual side effects that Propecia have on men.

But too much of a good thing can be dangerous. Excess amounts of vitamin D can lead to disastrous results. Taking in handfuls of these pills could result in toxicity which could increase blood calcium levels. This phenomenon could result in bone loss and calcifications in the heart. To prevent this, you should not take more than your recommended dose for your age.

Unfortunately more studies are needed to really figure out how the results can be translated to humans. So for now, it is best to keep fingers crossed.

Hair transplant surgery still remains to be the best solution next to hair loss medications. So be guided accordingly to start on that healthy path to hair restoration.
